- Drill or cut holes in the leather goods to the appropriate size and insert the metal post of the rivet into the drilled holes, ensuring that the post passes through all the materials that need to be joined. For double cover rivets, the top cover should be located on the front of the leather, while the bottom cover is located on the back
- On the other side of the metal column, place a suitably sized bottom plate.
- Using suitable tools such as rivet setters and hammers, hammer or press the metal post end of the rivet so that it forms a strong connection. This usually involves light tapping or continuous pressure on a metal post until the post deforms and holds in place.
