Types and burial methods of metal thread inserts in plastic parts

Hot melt/ultrasonic type

Hot melt burial is the most commonly used burial method, generally to hot melt machine and manual electric soldering iron burial, the principle is through heating the indenter and contact with the copper nut, so that the copper nut temperature rises, when the temperature reaches the softening temperature of the plastic itself, the nut is buried in the rubber parts, exit the indenter, after cooling the copper nut and the plastic parts hot melt into one.

Hot melt

In-mold injection molding

This way as the name suggests is to put the nut into the mold, plastic injection after the rubber will wrap the outer wall of the nut, cooling can be combined with the plastic parts, this burial method can get the best bonding strength, but compared to other ways of the cost is higher, mainly reflected in the nut placement process seriously affect the injection cycle.

Therefore, the matching of the cylinder needle or setting pin of the screw column in the mold and the inner hole of the nut needs to be strictly controlled, the gap is too large, although it is easy to put in, but it may leak glue (blind hole nut can be selected); The gap is too small, not easy to put in, affecting the injection cycle.

There is also that it cannot be misplaced, otherwise the mold may be damaged after the mold is closed; The nut should not be missed, otherwise the whole plastic part will be judged as unqualified.

In-mold injection molding

Press-in type

Mainly refers to cold pressing, refers to not heating (room temperature) directly pressed into the plastic, is relative to hot pressing (hot melt) nuts, cold pressing process is mainly to deal with difficult to be buried by hot melt or ultrasonic and other occasions, such as some thermosetting plastics, curing and molding can not be melted or softened again.
